We've been in our house for 2 years. We found out today that the wiring has been here for 86.
How did we find this out you ask?
We've had intermittant electricity in our living room since Thursday (the day the AC was installed). Something seemed amiss. We call the AC company. A guy comes out to see what the problem is...
Yikes he says. You need an entire re-wiring of the house. Now why they didn't mention this before they installed the AC, I haven't the foggiest. (To his credit, this particular guy wasn't at the installation).
But yep, good chance the wiring in this home has been here since the Depression.
Our entire home is a fire hazard.
Quite a bit of $$ to make it safe.
Rob is considering going after the inspector. "Good idea" says the AC man.
What would you say?
Since Luke is starting to get up a little later (7:15 --yes that is much later than it used to be), I'm going to start going to the gym again in the mornings. Shooting for 5:30-7:30 Mommy Morning Glory. This time will include workout, devotions and getting the house ready for the day. I might just sneak in my grande latte.

Yup. Our wiring is totally, totally old too. Scary.
I always like to get advice from people who will not profit from my decision. So, an inspector who does not own an electrical company, yea!
Much more costly to have a fire destroy your lives. Sorry you have to be worrying over this. Funner ways to spend money.

I am a guy who would not trust wiring that was that old. I would not put my family in fear of a fire started by bad (read old) wiring. But the cost of wiring (given the increase in copper prices) could be really ugly! You might want to call the fire department and have an inspector come out to insure it's safe before doing ANYTHING! ~ jb///

On the wiring...lived in a grove home that was being restored once...it was built in the 1800's...and the wiring was a nightmare among other things. I was married to an electrician at the time, so all I paid for was parts (no labor). BUT, how is it that the wiring passed an inspection prior to the final sale of the home? I'd be hiring an independent inspector too!

OH No!! I hate it when I find something huge out...after the fact! why didn't this show up when you bought your house? Arrgh...I know you're asking all the same questions in your mind. I would certianly check out my options to see if there is any recourse. So sorry! Seems like if it isn't one thing its another doesn't it?
The early mornings sound fun...and you sound ok with getting up that early...I'm not much of a morning glory myself...at least I wna't when I had small kids...I'm a little better now...guess I don't need as much sleep. :) I'm trying to figure out a time to go to the gym myself..
wow. i'm impressed with the goal for 530-730 mommy time. it sounds great. sweet morning time to yourself and all ready to face the kiddies when they get up. :) i'm hoping to do something similar in a couple months......although i'm not sure about gettin up as early as 530 - kudos to you!

yummy!! grande latte sounds good!!! definitely sneak that in!! That sounds terrible about the wiring! what an absolute pain! I would definitely report that for sure!!
When we bought our house two years ago we found out that it had been built on an underground stream. This was after our basement had flooded twice within months of moving in. The previous owner told us it only flooded once in 10 years. Yeah right. We got lots of estimates for a new sump pump system and had one guy tell us our problem would never be resolved, sell this house immediately. Yikes. $8,000 later and a jackhammered basement and we've been flood free for a year (knock on wood). Hope your situation is resolved with minimal expense soon.
